The Japanese government will send officials to the Philippines to help treat and rehabilitate drug addicts in the country.
About 2 million people are addicted to stimulants and drugs in the Philippines. Eradication of drugs is a top priority under the government of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Japanese government will send a team of experts to the Philippines starting on Monday. This will include specialists from the National Police Agency, the Justice Department, Heath, Welfare and Labor Ministry, as well as researchers.
They are engaged in treating and rehabilitating addicts in Japan.
The team will have talks with Philippine government officials and visit rehabilitation facilities.
The Japanese government will use the findings to develop a program to help rehabilitate drug addicts in the Philippines.
The government is arranging a plan for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to visit the Philippines next month.
