Fireworks displays to celebrate the New Year left 380 people injured in the Philippines.
An explosion occurred at a fireworks display in the capital Manila early in the morning of New Year’s Day. Scores of people were taken to hospital with burns.
The blast also started a fire in a slum area. Authorities say about 3,000 people lost their homes.
People across the Philippines launch fireworks to welcome the New Year. Legend has it that making loud noises drives away bad luck. But the pyrotechnical festivities result in a number of accidents every year.
4 people were also wounded by stray bullets after guns were fired into the air to celebrate the New Year.
