Taito Ward translates website into 89 languages

A district of Tokyo that hosts many popular tourist sites is seeking to attract more foreign visitors by offering its official website in 89 languages. Taito Ward is home to such well-known attractions as Asakusa and Ueno Park. More than 5.3 million foreign tourists visited the ward last year. That figure represents about 40 percent of all travelers from overseas. The ward’s website had previously been offered in English, Chinese, and Korean. The new languages include French, Thai, Norwegian, and Nepalese. Officials warn that the text may not be fully accurate, as they used a computer program and the Google mechanical translation service.
