Chidorigafuchi is a popular place to see sakura in Tokyo and one of the most picturesque to enjoy the beauty of these flowers in Japan.
The areas of Chidorigafuchi are the moats and waterways of the old Edo Castle and are on the northeast side of the Imperial Palace.
The site highlights about 200 cherry trees that stretch for 700 meters along the sidewalk that decorates the moats beautifully and more than a million people come to enjoy this spectacular view. The cherry trees are lit up at night until 9 pm.
A good way to enjoy the cherry trees in Chiodorigafuchi is by boat. Visitors can rent them and paddle through the moats surrounded by beautiful sakuras by day and by night. After the peak of the season, the flower petals cover the surface of the water and create another spectacular spring setting.
Chidorigafuchi is located in Chiyoda and a sakura festival is held during the season highlighting special events, in addition to food and drink stalls. There are several other sites in this area such as the Yasukuni Shrine and the Imperial Palace where visitors can also enjoy cherry blossoms.
According to a Weathernews forecast released on February 13, 2020, cherry blossoms in Tokyo will begin to bloom around March 20.
