Each year, three zoos and a marine park in the capital Tokyo offer free to visitors on selected days in May. Check out when they are and schedule a visit!
Ueno Zoological Gardens (上 野 動物園 Ueno Dobutsuen)
May admission: free on May 4th
Founded in 1882, Ueno Zoo is the oldest in Japan. It has grown over the years, expanded its area and has been a pioneer in the Japanese zoo world.
Located right in the center of Tokyo, the zoo not only offers recreation, but plays a major role in wildlife conservation and public education. In an effort to reproduce endangered species, the zoo has completed the Gorilla Woods and Tiger Forests areas.

Tama Zoological Park (公園 摩 動物 公園 Tama Dobutsukoen)
Admission is free on May 4 and 5
At Tama Zoo, animals are exhibited in spectacular natural habitats set in its 52-hectare area of Hino City, an hour’s drive from central Tokyo by train. The zoo features animals from Japanese species such as deer, Yezo brown bears and monkeys, as well as species from around the world such as African elephants, koalas, Indian rhinos and orangutans. The Lion Bus offers a ride to see the lions upclose.

Tokyo Sealife Park
May admission: free on May 4th
Real landscapes and dramatic displays of freshwater and marine life not only from Tokyo, but from around the world, even Antarctica.
In the huge 2,220-ton tank visitors can see bluefin tuna and the aquarium also features penguin birds and a giant kelp from California, USA. The facility is on the beach of Tokyo Bay.

Inokashira Park Zoo (園 の 頭 自然 文化 園 Inokashira Shizen Bunkaen)
May admission: free on the 4th and 17th
Inokashira Zoological Park is located in a quiet and distinct suburb of Tokyo.
It exhibits a variety of Japanese species and contributes to the conservation and reproduction of Japanese squirrels, mandarin ducks and swans.
In the park there is also a lake, a botanical garden and the Seibo Kitamura Museum (Japanese sculptor). The park’s luxurious greenery provides a relaxing atmosphere for all visitors.
