Restaurant chain in Japan to go smoke-free

A major Italian restaurant chain in Japan is going smoke-free.

Sources close to Saizeriya say the company has decided to ban smoking in principle in all its restaurants by September 2019. Saizeriya has more than 1,000 outlets.

Ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in 2020, the health ministry is planning to submit a bill to prevent secondary smoke at major restaurant chains.

Smoking is already prohibited at outlets of the major hamburger chain, McDonald’s Japan.

The operator of Kentucky Fried Chicken has also decided to make its outlets smoke-free.
