Police in London say one man was killed and 10 others injured when a van rammed in to pedestrians near a mosque.
They arrested a 48-year-old man who was driving the vehicle. British prime minister Theresa May says police are investigating the incident “as a terrorist attack.”
The incident took place just after midnight on a busy street near the Finsbury Park mosque in the north of the city. Many immigrants live around the area.
A local newspaper reported that a man armed with a knife leapt out of the car and stabbed at least one person.
A woman told the Reuters news agency a white van stopped outside the mosque after it seemed to have hit people who were coming out after prayers.
The Muslim Council of Britain tweeted it’s been informed a van ran over worshippers as they left.
It’s currently Ramadan, a time of year when Muslims fast during the day and eat after sunset.
The incident comes a few weeks after a major terrorist attack in the city when a van veered into pedestrians on London Bridge. Men then got out and attacked people with knives. They killed 8 people and injured dozens.
