Three gold bars worth about 15 million yen were stolen from a Chinese woman in Tokyo’s Ginza district on Thursdsay.

Police said they received a call at around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday from a Chinese woman in her 40s who claimed her gold bars, weighing about one kilogram each, had been stolen, Fuji TV reported.

The woman had visited the shop of a precious metal wholesaler at around 11 a.m. located within a commercial building in Ginza. There, she said she met up with “a male acquaintance who was introduced by a friend” to exchange the gold bars for cash. However, the man took the gold bars and fled.

The woman told police it was the first time she had met the thief, who had been recommended to her by her friend.
