North Korea has warned Japan that it would suffer the greatest damage if war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula.

The newspaper of the Korean Workers’ Party, Rodong Sinmun, criticized Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force for holding a joint drill with the US aircraft carrier Carl Vinson last month.

The paper called Japan foolish if it believes it will remain safe as long as it follows the United States.

Japan and the US are stepping up cooperation in the area of security. A Japanese destroyer began escorting a US Navy ship off Japan’s coast on Monday. This action is allowed under new security legislation that came into effect in March last year.
