The top three Philippine universities are slowly ranking in a few academic disciplines worldwide, results of a 2017 World University Rankings by Subject by Britain-based Quacquarelli Symonds showed.

The latest rankings saw QS rank universities in a cluster of disciplines. The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) and De La Salle University (DLSU) got ranked in four of five discipline clusters.


AdMU is ranked 284th in the Arts and Humanities. In the same cluster, UP is 293rd and DLSU 401-450.

In two clusters of disciplines, Engineering and Technology and the Life Sciences, UP is in the 401-450 group.

And in the Social Sciences and Management cluster, UP is 274th, AdMU is 387th and DLSU is 401-450.

Language-related disciplines saw the big three of Philippine higher educational institutions ranked. In English Language and Literature, UP and DLSU are in the 151-200 range and AdMU 201-250.

DLSU and UP are in the 151-200 range in the disciplines Linguistics and Modern Languages, respectively.

Also a discipline where UP got ranked previously is Agriculture and Forestry. The state university, whose agriculture program is in Los Baños town in Laguna province, is ranked 101-150. UP is also ranked in the Environmental Sciences: 251-300.

And in Sociology, UP is 201-250 and AdMU is 251-300.

The QS ranking of universities by subject is among the rankings schemes of the British-headquartered educational consultancy firm. It is the most famous ranking in the overall-ranking of the world’s universities.
