A mountain climber was killed after being hit by an avalanche in Japan’s Toyama Prefecture on Tuesday.
Police say the avalanche occurred at around 8:30 AM in the Tateyama mountain range at an altitude of 2,500 meters. It hit 3 climbers out of a party of 6, all of whom were male members of a climbing club at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
The 21-year-old mountaineer was confirmed dead after being found unconscious. Police say another student sustained minor injuries.
A local transportation company says about 70 centimeters of snow had fallen since Monday night and that visibility was poor due to fog.
