Elementary school teacher caught lifting man’s wallet on train

Police in Saitama said Sunday they have arrested a 23-year-old elementary school teacher on suspicion of attempting to steal a man’s wallet on a train. According to police, the suspect, Takeru Terada, tried to lift a wallet containing about 28,000 yen in cash from the back pocket of a man’s pants on the JR Musashino line between Minami-koshigaya and Higashi-kawaguchi stations at around 5:35 p.m. on Friday, Fuji TV reported. The man, who was looking at his smartphone, felt something and grabbed Terada in the act, police said.
