Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida says more than 50 countries and territories from around the world have sent condolence messages to quake-hit Japan.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Kishida expressed his gratitude for the support.
Messages have come in from countries including the United States, China and South Korea.
Foreign Ministry officials say Japan has also received sympathies from 5 international organizations such as the European Union and the United Nations.
