Water still out in west Japan after cold snap

Nearly 90,000 homes are still without tap water, mainly in western Japan, after a record cold spell damaged pipes. About 89,900 households in 13 prefectures were still without water on Thursday morning. Supply to more than 27,000 homes has been restored since Wednesday. The worst affected prefecture is Fukuoka, where some 31,400 homes in seven municipalities are still waiting for water services to resume. All 54,000 households in Fukuoka’s Omuta City were without water at one time, but the number is now down to 7,000. The city hopes to restore all supplies by Friday morning. Supplies have also been resumed at a hospital in the city for the first time in two and a half days. The hospital supplies dialysis treatment to up to 75 patients every day. Self-Defense Forces have been delivering the 15 to 20 tons of water it needs daily.   Source and image: NHK Share this:TweetEmail
