British comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the ceremony for the fourth time.

One of the night’s biggest highlights was Sylvester Stallone getting a standing ovation when he won for “Creed.”

The Golden Globes is the only major award-giving body that gives out awards separately for drama and comedy/musical categories.

Hollywood foreign press members, which includes two Filipinos, say this year there was no clear frontrunner in categories and so it was especially tough when they voted, except for Leonardo Dicaprio, an obvious early favorite for The Revenant.

“Marami kasing bagong movies and television na pinagpilian namin so it’s a very close fight,” said Jane Nepales, a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association or HFPA.

Another HFPA member, Ruben Nepales, added, “The only one na frontrunner in this race is si Leonado Dicaprio. He’s very good. And challenge sa kanyang role is that wordless, halos walang words and it’s only through his eyes, through his face.”

Hollywood observers say 2015 is the year of powerful female characters in film and tv.

Taraji P. Henson won best actress playing a tough cookie in the hit show “Empire” while newcomer Brie Larson won best drama actress for her extraordinary performance in the movie “Room.”
