
At least 26 people, including children, were killed in a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck near Cebu Island in the Philippines last night.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred off the northern coast of Cebu Island in the Philippines at approximately 11:00 PM yesterday, Japan time.
According to Philippine disaster management authorities, at least 26 people, including children, were killed and 147 were injured due to building collapses and other damage.
Footage taken on the ground showed the violent shaking causing parts of a church to collapse and citizens fleeing buildings for evacuation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are currently no reports of Japanese nationals being affected.
