Cold air above the northern Kyushu region and Yamaguchi Prefecture is feared to bring heavy snow to these areas through Feb. 13, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned.

Lowland areas of Fukuoka Prefecture, including the central part of the city of Fukuoka, saw an accumulation of snow on Feb. 11.

Urban expressways in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu were closed while Kyushu Railway Co. canceled some trains on its lines in Kagoshima Prefecture. The JMA Fukuoka Regional Headquarters warns of icy roads in the region.

The regional headquarters forecasts up to 30 centimeters of snow in mountainous areas of Yamaguchi Prefecture and 20 centimeters of snow in such areas of Fukuoka and Saga prefectures.
