Police in Kumamoto City said Tuesday they have arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 48-year-old wife at their apartment.
According to police, Hiroyuki Shiraishi is accused of strangling his wife Hitomi to death with a cord at around 7 a.m. Monday morning, Fuji TV reported.
Police said Shiraishi has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he lost his temper after getting into an argument with his wife over money matters.
Hitomi’s body was found at 9:30 a.m. after Shiraishi, a construction worker, didn’t show up for work. After not being able to contact Shiraishi, his supervisor came to his apartment, which was unlocked, and found the woman’s body.
Shirashi was picked by police at 11:50 a.m., while in his car about 10 kilometers away from his apartment.
