Crash in western Japan

Officials say what appears to be a small aircraft has crashed into a mountainous area in Nara Prefecture, western Japan. It happened around midday on Monday.

Video footage from the site shows debris in a densely forested area. Smoke and fire can be seen coming from the apparent crash site.

Police say some residents told them what looked like an airplane fell and began twisting before crashing into the mountain.
