The Japanese government has added 22 new map symbols that are easier to understand in an aim to become more tourist-friendly.
Industry ministry officials have been working to make signs at train stations and other public spaces more universal ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
They finalized 22 designs and completed procedures on Thursday to meet Japanese Industrial Standards, or JIS.
Seven of them were revisions of existing designs, including those for hot spring baths, information centers and parking lots.
Fifteen new signs were created for convenience stores, charging stations, Wi-Fi hotspots, and other places.
The officials plan to urge train stations and operators of tourist facilities to put up the new signs.
