Workers at Toyota Motor are set to get a pay raise for the 4th consecutive year. But the size of the increase is short of what union leaders asked for.
The Japanese automaker decided to offer a base pay-scale hike of about 11 dollars. The labor union was negotiating for 26 dollars. That’s also slightly below last year’s agreed amount.
But Toyota is increasing allowances for employees who are raising children. Combined with the base pay hike, this increases average monthly salaries for workers with kids by 21 dollars.
Labor leaders are expected to accept the offer, putting an end to this year’s wage talks.
