Hiroshima museum has record number of visitors

A memorial museum in the atomic-bombed city of Hiroshima has reported a record number of visitors for the fiscal year that ends next month. Officials at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum welcomed the 1,593,281st visitor of the year on Friday, breaking the previous record set 25 years ago. The 29-year-old Tokyo resident, Yuri Takahashi, received commemorative items. She said she is visiting Hiroshima for the first time and went to the Atomic Bomb Dome and the museum. She said she hopes many people will also visit them. The museum opened in 1955 to show the extent of the damage caused by the atomic bombing to the world and to promote the abolition of nuclear weapons. The museum has about 400 exhibits.
