South Korea’s military is on high alert for a possible provocation from North Korea, including a ballistic missile launch, on or around the day of the US presidential election.
An official from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff commented on the matter at a news conference on Monday.
The official said that being mindful of security situations at home and abroad, including the US presidential election, the South Korean military is maintaining close surveillance and preparedness for any possibility that the North may resort to provocations.
Another South Korean military official told NHK that the military has recently confirmed frequent movements of multiple mobile missile launchers in North Korea.
North Korea conducted test launches of what are believed to be Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missiles on October 15th and 20th. But both tests appear to have failed.
