Anti-drug authorities have arrested 22 residents of Nagano Prefecture, central Japan, for suspected marijuana possession.
Those arrested are residents of Omachi City and neighboring Ikeda Town and are aged from 27 to 64.
Health ministry officials in charge of narcotics control say they searched homes and warehouses with local police on Wednesday. They seized 8 kilograms of marijuana and cannabis plants that were apparently being grown by the residents.
Sixteen of the suspects have reportedly admitted the allegations but 6 others have denied the charges.
The authorities responded to a tip about the use of marijuana among a group of people who had moved to the region from urban areas such as Tokyo and neighboring Kanagawa Prefecture.
Investigators believe the suspects may have habitually used marijuana after meeting at concerts and other local events.
