Police in Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan, are investigating a drone crash at Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Officials of Himeji City say a security guard saw a drone hit the castle’s main tower on Thursday afternoon. The tower is designated a national treasure.
The officials say the drone struck the roof tiles of the tower and then hit the lower part of the building before falling to the ground.
They say no one has been injured and that images from surveillance cameras show no major damage to the building. The city plans to carry out close checks on Friday.
The officials say the security guard saw some foreigners preparing to fly a drone near the tower in the morning and warned them not to operate it.
