People in western Japan are staying alert as Typhoon Chaba continues to blow through the region. The powerful storm is moving in a northeast direction over waters off Kyushu. Japan’s Meteorological Agency says the typhoon is traveling at a speed of about 50 kilometers per hour. It is packing winds of more than 125 kilometers per hour near its center. (Image: Reproduction/ANN) Authorities have advised more than 30,000 people in the island city of Tsushima in Nagasaki Prefecture to evacuate their homes. Public schools in the prefecture were closed on Wednesday. Air and sea traffic has been disrupted. More than 140 domestic flights to and from the region have been cancelled. Weather officials forecast the storm will keep moving east along Japan’s coast. Typhoon Chaba is now battering South Korea.
