The organizing committee of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will open official shops selling products designed for the Games on Friday.
A day earlier, a media preview took place at a shop in Tokyo’s posh Ginza district. Another store is to open in the capital’s Shibuya area.
About 100 items line the shelves, including polo shirts and towels that bear the emblems of the 2020 Games featuring an indigo checkered pattern.
The emblems were selected earlier this year after the original design was scrapped amid allegations of plagiarism.
Pin badges and T-shirts that temporarily ran out at an already open online store are available at the official outlets.
Shoppers can also buy caps and other goods to support the Japanese team at the Rio Games. The items carry the slogan “Go for it, Japan!” with characters taken from popular comic books and animations.
Minoru Ogata, a member of the 2020 Games’ organizing committee, said he hopes the products will lift people’s expectations for the upcoming Rio Games and the 2020 Tokyo Games.
The shops will be open through September 19th.
