The Tokyo District Court on Tuesday sentenced a former law school student to four and a half years in prison for severing a 43-year-old lawyer’s penis last year, who the defendant suspected forced his wife to have sexual relations.
Ikki Kotsugai, 25, charged with causing injury and violation of the swords and firearms control law, “inflicted irreparable harm” on the lawyer, the employer of Kotsugai’s wife at the time, Judge Kazunori Karei said.
According to the ruling, Kotsugai punched the lawyer several times and cut off his penis with the scissors Kotsugai brought with him to the lawyer’s office in Tokyo’s Minato Ward on Aug. 13, 2015.
“The victim continues to suffer physical and psychological pain day after day,” the judge said.
During the trial, Kotsugai said he was told by his wife that she had sexual relations with the lawyer, adding, “I could not control my anger as I thought she was forced to have relations.”
But the ruling said the court had no reason to believe that the lawyer forced Kotsugai’s wife to have sexual relations with him.
Prosecutors demanded a six-year sentence for the defendant.
