A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has struck Hokkaido, northern Japan. The jolt registered 6 minus on the Japanese seismic scale of 0 to 7 in Hakodate City.
The Meteorological Agency says there is no risk of a tsunami.
There is one reported injury so far. A person was injured in a care home for the elderly and is being taken to hospital for treatment.
There are no irregularities reported at the nearby Higashi-dori nuclear power plant. The plant was not operational at the time of the quake.
