A pair of logos for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games has officially been chosen.
Organizers for the Tokyo Games on Monday officially endorsed an indigo-and-white checkered circle logo for the Olympics and a basket-shaped logo for the Paralympics.
The endorsement came after members of the logo selection panel met to choose the final designs from 4 candidates which were narrowed down from about 14,000 entries. The members chose the designs, considering more than 40,000 opinions sent by the public.
Executives of the organizing committee officially approved the pair of emblems in a meeting that immediately followed.
The final selection of the emblems took more than 7 months after the original designs were scrapped due to accusations of plagiarism.
Organizers came under fire after critics noted that the previous selection process in which the original emblems were chosen lacked transparency.
The newly chosen logos will be used in ads and commercials of sponsor firms. They will also adorn official goods to promote the Games that will take place in 4 years-time.
