North Korean media say the country has conducted a successful simulation of a ballistic missile’s re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere.
The newspaper of the ruling Workers’ Party, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Tuesday that leader Kim Jong Un observed the test.
The paper said the simulation was designed to evaluate the heat stability of a warhead, and that it was able to achieve all of the technical targets.
Pictures on the paper show fire blowing against what appears to be a missile warhead, as well as an apparently discolored warhead after the test.
Kim reportedly said nuclear warhead explosion tests and test firings of several kinds of ballistic missiles will be carried out soon.
He reportedly ordered relevant departments to make preparations for the tests.
Kim’s remarks are the latest in a series of warnings reported by North Korean media referring to a miniaturized nuclear warhead and threats to deploy nuclear missiles.
These remarks are believed to be aimed at keeping the United States and South Korea in check. The 2 countries are currently conducting their largest-ever joint military drills in the South.
