Civil servants in a western Japanese city are wearing ninja costumes to help boost tourism there.
Koka City in Shiga Prefecture is famous for its ninja or secret agents in feudal Japan.
Nearby, the city of Iga in Mie Prefecture is also known for its ninja tradition. Last year, the 2 cities designated February 22nd as “Ninja Day.”
To promote the day, Koka city officials in charge of tourism started wearing ninja costumes on Monday.
One of the officials came to work by bicycle dressed in the ninja style. He said the costume brings a fresh air to his workplace.
He added that he wants many people to know that Koka is the birthplace of ninja, and they are welcoming visitors.
