Aichi Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to be a murder-suicide case after finding two bodies inside an apartment in Nakamura Ward, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 24).
At approximately 2:0 p.m. on Thursday, officers entered the residence, located on the fourth floor of a building in the Nakajimacho area, and found the blood-stained body of a woman collapsed in the entrance and that of a man in a corridor.
The body of the woman exhibited signs of having been hit in the head. She also suffered stab wounds to the chest. The male corpse had a stab wound to the chest. A knife and hammer were both found at the scene, according to the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 24).
Police believe the bodies are those of the married couple residing in the apartment. The residents are aged in their 40s.
Since the front door was locked, police suspect that the man killed the woman before taking his own life.
Officers from the Nakamura Police Station were called to the unit after a woman in Tokyo had been unable to reach her daughter for two weeks.
Police have ordered autopsies to determine the causes of death. They are also working identify the bodies.
