Police in Chiba Prefecture on Sunday arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of killing his grandparents.
The boy, a high school student in the city of Kimitsu, turned himself in to police Saturday evening, saying he killed his grandparents. Investigators later found the bodies of his grandfather, 67, and grandmother, 64, at their house.
The initial arrest was for the alleged murder of the grandmother on Wednesday, with additional charges expected to be filed Monday.
The teen told investigators he was stressed by problems at school and he could have killed “anyone.”
“I didn’t hold a grudge against my grandparents nor had trouble with them,” he was quoted as saying.
The bodies of the couple, dressed in pajamas, were found separately on the first and second floors of the house with stab wounds. Their heads appeared to have been beaten repeatedly with a blunt object, police said.
Investigators also found a blood-stained pickax, knife and hammer at the house.
The boy lives with his mother in Kimitsu and often visited his grandparents alone.
