Following the stabbing death of the 61-year-old manager of a convenience store, Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested one of his co-workers, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Nov. 24).
On Monday at 2:30 a.m., a customer entering the Nagatake branch of chain Lawson in Sagamihara City telephoned police after finding no employees inside and a bloodstain at the register. Officers from the Tsukui Police Station arriving at the scene found the body Ikko Miyagawa, 61, collapsed on the floor of the store’s office. He had suffered a stab wound to the abdomen.Miyagawa was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead two hours later.
Police later arrested Seiji Yamada, a 62-year-old male employee of the store, for attempted murder. He was in possession of a blood-stained knife at the time of his apprehension.
The suspect admits to the allegations, telling police that the pair had gotten into a dispute. Police believe the suspect stabbed the victim repeatedly about 20 minutes before the customer entered the store, according to NHK (Nov. 24).
